I think I may start doing this.

Although I don’t think Donnie Darko is as hard to grasp as the creators of this video seem to think it is, I have to second a commenter on VideoSift and upvote for the old-timey piano rendition of Mad World.

You’re doing it wrong

Not that ugly
Via Neatorama, a tale of a man who just doesn’t get it.

After placing adverts in local papers stressing his wealth with words like “tender and rich lawyer looks for a pretty lady to marry” and then “disgustingly rich lawyer looks for a pretty lady to marry”, he was still unable to find a wife.

He said: “I’ve got to the point where I have even been asking women I am meeting in the streets to marry me, but they always say no.”

Kacic, from Zagreb, said he had now accepted that he must be the ugliest man in the world.

It has, apparently, never occurred to him that his problem may be with his tactics. Certainly there are many gold digging women who care not a whit for personality or looks given her beau has enough money, but presumably they are all off shagging rich septuagenarian widowers, or living somewhere other than Croatia. For everyone else, his tactics would almost certainly ensure they keep their interactions with him to a minimum, if they even take his solicitations seriously.

I have to hand him this- effectively buying a press release to declare your wealth and eligibility, while not entirely novel, will almost certainly be an effective way to attract the former sort of “lady”.

Personally, I don’t think he’s too terribly ugly. He’s certainly not “ugliest man in the world” ugly. But what he lacks in hideousness he certainly makes up for in persistence, unperceptiveness, and social awkwardness.

Hamster balls…
Mood: amused
Posted in Images on 2007.10.08 @ 14:44

…are cute? Well, hamsters at least, are cute, so I suppose this won’t fit into my doubleplusuncute bucket.

Hamster balls

I don’t know HOW you managed to capture your hamster’s ‘tocks so perfectly. I mean look at this specimen!

Should I tell them that those are not, in fact, “‘tocks”, but are rather testicles? It seems that other people saying as much in the comments are for the most part being ignored, so there’s really no point, I guess.

Besides, when I told them that one of their previous darlings likely had terrible birth defects they accused me of “Nuffing”. Do a browser find in the comments for ‘hydrocephaly’ and/or ’nuff’, if for some reason you are interested.

On the bright side, I guess any accidental hamster births (“But the pet store said they were both female!”) couldn’t happen to nicer people.

Via Neatorama, I normally hate monkeys and apes (too much like people) but I love this. Maybe it’s the old timey music, and maybe it’s the super surreal and cute subject matter. More likely, it’s because there’s a cat. I’m a sucker for cats.

That cat puts up with scrubbing really well. He and the chimp must be good friends! There must be something about felines and primates conducive to this sort of thing.

Further evidence:

Exhibit A, monkey and kitten:

Monkey and kitty

Exhibit B, Koko and her kitten:

Koko’s Kitten

I think I might be onto something, here.

I just read a zombie story that made me cry.

Why? ‘cuz it had a cat in it.

I’m such a sucker.

Oh yeah, the story was Black Days: Sandy out of the new Brainchild zombie anthology.

Friday night antics
Posted in Uncategorized on 2005.11.12 @ 02:39

Tonight we watched Chopper Chicks in Zombietown, which was a rather fun movie (at least I thought so!), especially the whimsical slide whistle music that accompanied zombie antics. No one else seemed to like it much. Oh, well :)

After that I remembered to chage the lightbulb in the front light, which allowed me to discover an Amazon package which was sitting bahind a bush for me. Sweet! Well, not so sweet, maybe, ‘cuz I somehow managed, when ordering a Siouxsie and the Banshees CD, to also order a Love and Rockets CD. I really have no idea how I managed to do that, excepting that somehow Amazon recommended it to me, and somehow I actually listened, and somehow I then proceeded to forget about it. Whatever, it’s not really worth returning, and it’s even kinda okay.

I then proceeded to break my firefox by updating the extensions (this happens every time I update them- I really need to learn not to do that). This time, Launchy seemed to be the culprit, making my statusbar inflate to at least 6 times its normal height. Removing the offending extension (both in the firefox-sanctioned way and the manual kludgey way) just caused firefox to be permanently unresponsive. So I cleared out my profile, copied various settings back, and reinstalled wanted extensions and themes (at least, those that are still available to this version of firefox [mozcc and undoclosetab being two that worked previously but I am now unable to install]).

But then I made up for it by finding (via the Subgenius blog) the coolest site evar. At least, the coolest site evar for this week: Hello Kitty’s Subgenius A to Z. I especially like ‘E’ and ‘Z’ :)
