A 2.5 Year-Old Has A First Encounter with An iPad (via Laughing Squid)
I’m pretty ambivalent about this.
On the one hand, it’s very interesting how intuitive the ipad interface is to someone without a lot of computer experiences. I’ve heard that the same is true for older people who have always avoided computers - stuff like this just makes sense to them.
On the other hand, it’s apparent how much of an advantage privileged kids like this will have over poorer children whose parents can’t afford the newest $500 gadgets. It’s a problem that already exists, to be certain, but in these game-changing times I only see it getting much worse.
It’s like how in ages past only the nobility were able to dedicate the time to develop literacy, cementing the lower place in society proletariat children were born into and giving them no potential for advancement.

NJ’s fine as long as you recognize it for the parasitic twin it is and don’t mistake it for something worthwhile in its own right.

I love this video/song, and not just for its modesty:
Fuck.
This is like, the coolest song I ever heard in my whole life.
Fuck all of you who said I wouldn’t make it.
You said I was a loser.
You said I was a no one.
You said I was a fucking psycho.
But look at me now.
All up in the interweb.

Enter the ninja.
From the artist’s website:
DIE ANTWOORD is a lovable, mongrel-like entity made in Zuid Afrika, the love-child of many diverse cultures, black, white, coloured and alien, all pumped into one wild and crazy journey down the crooked path to enlightenment.
Whatever they are, they seem to understand the way to mutate geeks into fans rather well: manipulate their heartstrings with dance music, DDR, ninjas, and mutants.
Sometimes, I worry that I am too easily predictable. Then I decide I’m having fun, so it doesn’t really matter.

“Tiger Woods, described frequently as a “very private” person, was unable to keep his private life private. Why? Because he interacted with non-private people. The reason Kim Kardashian and the Jersey Shore denizens have risen to positions of prominence in popular culture is because they each epitomize the non-private person. They have nothing to hide, so nothing that becomes public knowledge can hurt them. Ms. Kardashian can be urinated on in a sex tape and actually be helped in terms of being a public figure. My own ability to be effective as a transgender rights activist is because there’s nothing anyone could expose about me that would deter me from my activism. That gives me enormous power over anonymous haters who vent their impotent fury at me to no avail. Their own fear of exposure (loss of privacy) is their greatest weakness.” -Andrea James, BoingBoing 01/06/10 (emphasis mine)
