I think about Judith Butlers works on gender a lot, and am in regular conversations with others about them. Recently, Butler has faced some push back to the idea of “gender as performance”. She even has stated that she believes that her point is being misinterpreted due to “bad writing”.

That is maybe the closest I’ve seen to someone describing my own feelings on gender, and also why I was so very confused by transgender issues for so long. I really don’t “get” gender, still, but do realize I’m terribly lucky for my main feeling on gender being that my gender is unimportant.

At the end of the day, all I can do is remember that other people have vastly different experiences than me, and that those experiences are all valid.

All I can do is keep trying to be better.
