I wrote this because I was bored, but it could be considered useful. Using Java Swing, this program pops up a window asking you for a US zip Code. After entering the zip a new window will shortly appear (depending on network speed and somesuch) with your local forecast from The National Weather Service.

This program is badly in need of being updated. I am well aware that it doesn’t work very well anymore, if at all. It was just a quick program from the start, so was never very robust. I don’t really have any use for it anymore, so have stopped working on it.

this "weathercheck" is something that I'm looking for, but was looking for something in C or C++… I'm still quite new to Java.

Basically, I think it would be great to have a client side app do fullscreen animated radar (via downloading the current radar images from the net)

Currently, when severe weather hits here, I'm frusted by continuously hitting the darn browser reload every five minutes for a weather radar update. And doing fullscreen would be excellent on my laptop lcd!

Well, I've basically given up on this project, but I believe that the US government makes all of its radar data available somewhere (you'd have to check up on this). If someone wants to use any of the code I've written for this project (the gui code may be useful, but the data mining stuff is crap [I have no illusions about this]) to improve it and/or make a better project, they are more than welcome. It IS open source, afterall :)

Anyway, if someone would like to do some major work on this project, I may be willing to accept other developers on the official sourceforge project page. Email me if you are interested.

Well, if it is the program I wrote you simply delete the files that come out of the tarball, as nothing actually gets 'installed'.

Someone else wrote a program of a simlar name though that does actually install on your machine- I can't help you with that, as I have no experience with it. You should probably complain to that program's developer(s).
